Buying a new Samsung product includes a one-year limited warranty, or two years for European buyers. For extra peace of mind an extended warranty is an option, however, the current program isn’t actively advertised and is apparently only offered with select products.
The new USPTO trademark filing suggests that Samsung is in preparation to offer a new extended warranty program dubbed Samsung Protection Plus. It is all about “providing extended warranties on consumer electronic products and consumer appliances”. So in other words, if you buy a Samsung refrigerator or the Galaxy Note 3, you should be covered on both.
Although no other details about Protection Plus were revealed, it’s possible the program could be very similar to Samsung’s existing extended warranty, with additional support for more products. That means we could see several different tiers of coverage, with some extended warranties, like accidental damage handling. Note that these are only speculations.
It makes sense Samsung would want to improve its current warranty program to better compete with Apple. But what are your thoughts on this? Would you prefer something similar to Apple’s Care program, or is carrier (3rd party) insurance sufficient?
