According to the Korea times, Samsung is developing custom-made smartphones for Coca-Cola and Pepsi, in a bid to sustain growth momentum in its handset business. This move was Samsung’s first step to strenghten its business-to-business (B2B) sector to prepare for full saturation of the business-to-consumer market.
Samsung officials also said that the company is targeting top-tier marketing-driven firms as they believes that smartphone solutions have reached a level where it needs to serve corporate clients. And Samsung is increasing the pressure to maintain momentum in the smartphone market. Thus their plans to develop software solutions tailored for each company.
“We are actively approaching companies which have big distribution channels like FedEX, UPS, Pepsi and Coca-Cola. Simply put, delivery systems in those companies could be effectively controlled by our customized devices.”
Aside from what has been stated above, the most obvious reason for this move is that Samsung wants to take over to prepare for full consumer saturation and help them stay among the top smartphone makers. It’s a smart move on their part, and we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out.
