LG G2 Sales Way Below Expectations, Only 2.3 Million Units In 4 Months

The LG G2 is one of the best and innovative smartphones that we have seen this 2013, where it received nothing but great reviews and a legitimate contender for the top three smartphone of the year. Even LG expects nothing less from their flagship device as they predicted to have sold 3 Million units by the end of this year.

But it looks like the G2 will not live up to LG’s expectation as according to the Korean publication Asia Today, The G2 has only sold 2.3 million units in it’s first four months. Even in Korea, LG’s home market, has only sold 600,000 G2 units, just slightly above the 540,000 LG G Pro units sold last year.

Like we said, the G2 is a great device that many has said to top the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S4. The G2 sports the best hardware possible at the time of it’s launch and it also boasts of some innovative features like the KnockOn and Rear Key.

So what made the G2’s sales fall short? Well in our opinion it’s a combination of two things. First reason is, LG is not an Apple or a Samsung. It’s as simple as that. People tend to buy products from the more popular brand and that’s looking like the case with the G2.
Second reason is, you guessed it right – the launch of the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 was launched 2 months after the G2 and like all the previous Nexus devices, never had a problem selling it’s units due to it’s relatively low price. And who won’t love a phone that always gets the latest updates first? Plus the G2 and Nexus 5 sports nearly the same specs, so most buyers will most probably go with the cheaper Nexus 5.

The G2 may have fallen short to live up it’s sales expectation, but it doesn’t take away the fact that it’s one of the best smartphone that we have seen this year.
